What is virtue? On this subject is writ
Most ev’ry instant an alternate view
To suffer for belief, some say, is it
Denying Self for what one thinks is true
Others allege that suff’ring matters not
What matters is that others by it gain:
One does, in fact, precisely what one ought
To do, if it relieves another’s pain
Then some say that to obey holy rules
Is paramount — but I cannot agree
O’er whose and how, too many are made fools
Nor does the focus on “results” to me
Seem logical; no, none of the above
Rather, follow your heart, and act from love.
