1. If you notice someone having a bad day, even if you don’t have much time to give, at least pause and offer a kind word or deed. Negative moods are often the harbinger of loneliness. Show people that they are not really alone.
2. Pick up at least one piece of litter per day. If everyone in the world did this, imagine how much cleaner it would be.
3. Sign a petition for a cause in which you believe. They’re not hard to find, and it does not take more than a few minutes.
4. Remember your manners. If someone helps you, thank him. If you need help, ask nicely without expressing entitlement. Return all greetings. We all deserve basic respect.
5. Drive safely, not just for yourself but for everyone around you. It’s just common sense when you’re behind the wheel of a fast-moving death-machine. Also, safe roads equal calm and happy drivers. (Sorry, I sound like a government pamphlet there, huh?)
6. If someone looks like they need help, ask if you can assist them. Hold a door for someone who is carrying an armload of boxes. Point a lost person in the right direction. It won’t take you long.
7. If you love someone, tell them so. If you don’t want to say it with words, say it with actions.
8. If you have a pocketful of change and don’t really need it, donate that money to a cause. If you don’t have change, don’t let that stop you–every dollar is helpful. Without you, some charities might not exist.
9. Think before you speak. It might surprise you how many of the world’s problems would be solved if people just stopped to think. Remember that words have power. Use that power responsibly.
10. Don’t give up.
